Meet Vanessa *
Vanessa has always loved playing sports - in particular soccer, basketball, touch football, tennis and netball. It was this love of keeping active combined with a desire to make a positive difference, that led to her resigning from a successful career in banking and finance to pursue her passion.
Returning to university to study Exercise Physiology, she never looked back, graduating in 1st place with 1st class honours and the University Medal. During her honours year, she was fortunate to work on an exciting pilot trial at the Chris O’Brien Lifehouse to explore the feasibility and safety of exercise during chemotherapy infusion. It was during this experience that her passion for working within the field of exercise oncology was really ignited.
Since graduating, Vanessa has gained experience in a variety of roles across both private and public hospitals as well as in private practice, in exercise oncology, mental health, Parkinson’s Disease, and cardiac and orthopaedic surgery rehabilitation. She has worked with clients affected by Cancer in the private hospital setting at MetroRehab Hospital, in a large wonderfully equipped gym setting at CancerFit Australia, and in a Wellness Centre setting within the Kinghorn Cancer Centre. Since 2020, Vanessa has also held a part-time position in a public hospital mental health inpatient unit. Whilst vastly different roles, there is certainly cross-over in some of the challenges being encountered, and in the power of exercise in addressing these. These experiences have all influenced the birth of HEAL Exercise Physiology.
At HEAL, you will be heard, you will have access to an empathetic clinician who is also a nerd at heart and loves keeping up to date with the latest research and completing additional education, and you will be provided with an exercise program that is designed just for you. Together, let’s help you to heal.
